National Canoe Day Canoebecue and Dance on the Otonabee RiverCanoebecue

Come and join us at the Stewarts' barn on Rosa Landing Road. The Canoebecue will feature music, games, miniature canoe races, a live auction and a chance to try out some of our historic handling craft.

The live auction will include:

Antique Canoe :"A splendidly restored 1923 Old Town Otca, donated for fundraising purposes by a friend of the museum in 1997. It was used at a hunting and fishing camp on Loughborough Lake, north of Kingston. Some years ago, a team of volunteers under Fred Forester's leadership restored the wood and re-canvassed the boat. (Value: $3000)


L'll Big Band Performance at an event of your choice. Donated by the members of the Band. (Value: $1500.00)

Red Canoe Special A unique three hour outing for one or two people, hosted by James Raffan, in a red Chestnut canoe that was paddled by Bill Mason with his friend Don Morgan in Whiteshell Provincial Park.  Outing includes unlimited stories of Bill Mason and a signed copy of Fire in the Bones.  A light lunch with silver tea service will be served along the way.  Time and location of outing negotiable. (Value: Priceless)

The Canoebecue will feature the musical styling of the L'll Big Band. The L'll Big Band is a Kawarthas/Peterborough area band, begun in 2004 as a summer project. Their focus has been the production of an authentic Big Band sound.  Although they started with 12 members, hence the name, L'll Big Band, they slowly expanded and now regularly perform with 16 members.  [read more]

Directions:
From the corner of Ashburnham Road and Lansdowne, drive south on Ashburnham to County Road 2, and continue through the stop sign at Baseline Road. (Ashburnham changes its name to Crowley Line at Base line. ) Continue down Crowley Line and go through the stop sign at County Road 2, and follow the first right turn on Rosa Landing Road. The driveway is directly ahead of you down the lane through two huge boulders. The barn is on the right.
Tickets: $120 (with tax receipt to the maximum allowable by Revenue Canada)
