The umiak is the traditional community boat of the Inuit - originally made of seal or walrus skin on a driftwood frame. Finger weaving is a traditional type of hand weaving used to create the celebrated ceinture fléchée, colourful sashes historically worn by voyageurs during the fur trade.  This type of weaving is unique because it does not require a loom, or any bulky, expensive equipment.
