2023 is the Year of the Canoe Museum!

It is the year that all of our planning and all of the support from our community will come to fruition. We will finally be able to settle into our new home and welcome back visitors. This portage to a new home has been long and strenuous, and, as you can likely imagine, we have welcomed this final year with open arms.

The Year of the Canoe Museum symbolizes new beginnings and opportunities. For you, it could signify new learnings and new memories made. It will undoubtedly mean new understandings and connections for both of us. And we truly cannot wait for all of it!

We have big plans for how to bring the new museum to life. By now, we have had enough quiet museum days to last us a lifetime, and we are ready to get back to working in a space filled with energy. We are dedicated to bringing the new museum to life through an array of inclusive and engaging program offerings. A mix of indoor and outdoor programming will offer skill-based, interpretive, and reflective activities. A key focus is emphasizing hands-on experiences with authentic materials wherever possible. Using an experiential education lens and the collection as inspiration, we will encourage guests to make tangible connections between the exhibits, human ingenuity, the natural world, and, most importantly, one another.

You may have heard of, or even participated in, Giving Tuesday, but have you ever considered supporting The Canadian Canoe Museum and our mission long-term? Becoming a monthly donor will allow us to bring life to the Museum and enrich the community. It will allow you to support the Museum you care about, and as a bonus, if you join as a monthly donor during March, CanadaHelps will multiply your donation by adding $20! This will go a long way in support of our organization and the collection as we prepare to begin the next chapter of our story at the water’s edge. Your support of this meaningful project will be felt throughout the new museum.

We’ve compiled a list of the top 6 reasons why becoming a monthly donor just makes sense:

1. Make small, more manageable donations

As a monthly donor, making smaller, more manageable donations enables you to make a more significant impact over time. You can choose a donation amount that makes sense for your budget, receive a tax receipt at the end of every year, and cancel any time. We recommend $25, $50 or $75 as a monthly gift, as this will significantly impact collection upkeep costs and help ensure each artifact is cared for in the way it deserves. You will feel good giving year-round knowing that it is supporting The Canadian Canoe Museum while strategically distributing your donation. Best of all, it’s convenient for you, the donor!

2. Monthly donations allow the Museum to plan ahead, and it’s easy and effective!

As a charitable organization, your monthly gift allows us to count on regular income, making it easier to plan our programs, create budgets, and expand our impact as a museum of national significance. Having steady, predictable revenue through monthly giving keeps the Museum sustained and helps protect our future as an organization. Monthly supporters allow us to focus on what is most important – inspiring connection, curiosity, and new understanding. We also know that monthly donors are consistent and often will contribute an amount equal to or similar to a large one-time gift. Incredible!

3. See your impact every month

Feel empowered by your impact! Giving always feels good, and it feels even better when you are able to see how your donation is supporting The Canadian Canoe Museum in the long term. We love getting to know our monthly donors and what is important to them! All of our donors receive regular communications and updates and an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the Museum and the collection in our Donor Digest newsletter.

4. Be part of something bigger

Our monthly giving program invites you to become part of a community and join a collective of enthusiastic donors during The Year of The Canadian Canoe Museum! You will unite with a group of committed, compassionate individuals who support the Museum and the preservation of Canadian heritage while connecting all peoples to the land and each other.

Sue and Terry Guest are proud members of The Canadian Canoe Museum’s monthly donor program and consider their monthly gift to be as routine as “paying the food and fuel bills.”

“As the one who handles the finances in our family, I want to be on top of where our money goes each month. As The Canadian Canoe Museum is one of our most important recipients, it is crucial that we plan ahead for our donation, however small it is. We are on a fixed income and not getting any younger! Therefore it is just a monthly occurrence that we “give” to the Museum, as naturally as paying the food and fuel bills. And we feel good about it too.”

5. Get insider updates and program discounts

Not only will you be supporting the Museum in its mission and ongoing operations, but you will also reap the benefits of joining our collective of monthly donors! As we mentioned, you will access regular updates, but what’s more, when becoming a monthly donor during the month of March, you will also receive a one-time, 10% discount on a program of your choice at the new museum when we launch on the water’s edge.

6. CanadaHelps will multiply your donation during the month of March!

CanadaHelps will multiply your donation this March by giving an extra $20 on behalf of each new monthly donor! Please note CanadaHelps requires donors to give a minimum of $20 for at least three months to have the additional $20 donated on their behalf.* In other words, your $60 donation can quickly turn into an $80 donation if you choose to donate it in 3 installations of $20 rather than all at once. If you are considering becoming a monthly donor, now is the time to do it!

Becoming a monthly donor gives you the opportunity to continually care for the canoes in the collection and ensure their stories are shared for generations to come. With your help, The Canadian Canoe Museum can become a national treasure and inspire connection, curiosity, and new understanding on an even larger scale. Join our collective of passionate monthly donors today!

*CanadaHelps will donate to a participating charity an additional $20 for each new monthly donation of $20 or more that is made to the same charity via CanadaHelps at least three times before June 2, 2023, to a maximum aggregate amount of donations from CanadaHelps to all participating charities of $50,000 CAD.
