The system says I have an account already?

If you’ve registered with us before you will already have an account.  The default password is set to FirstName,LastName  (note comma). You can change this when you log in.

How do I know my registration went through?

You will receive an automatic email confirming your space.  You can also log out and back in.  If you see the program in your courses you are registered!

I can’t fill out the permission form?

The permission form becomes available after you’ve paid for a course.  You only have to fill it out once for multiple courses.  If you’ve filled it out in the past make sure it’s up to date.

My VISA/MC is being declined?

I can’t see all the program options?

Try using this portal on a computer rather than a phone.  Or make sure you are scrolling within the portal screen.

I want to see what courses I’m registered for?

You can view your course history and upcoming courses through the registration portal!

I want to be waitlisted for a course?

You can do this through the online portal.  When a course is full it will automatically add you to the waitlist.

Monday March 11th 

 

WAITLIST- Mini Paddle Painting ($18)

Monday March 11th 9:30-12 Age 6+

Inspired by an exploration of the paddles in our collection from around the world, kids will design and paint their own unique 14-inch (35 cm) basswood paddle to take home.

Notes: Please come prepared in painting clothes.  Smocks will be provided.  

Lunch Supervision ($5)

Monday March 11th 12-12:30 Age 6+

Our staff will supervise your child over the lunch period. Please note there are no staff led activities; children are welcome to bring self-directed indoor activities.

Notes: Lunch is not provided.  Participants should bring their own lunch.

We start off the program with a trip to our Origins gallery. Kids get a chance to learn about where the tradition of soapstone carving originates; handle some materials and tools of the North; then get a sneak peak, at some beautiful soapstone carvings from the collection. Sing songs, play Traditional Inuit games, then carve your own soap stone sculpture to take home.

Notes: Come prepared to get a little dusty!

Tuesday March 12th – Waitlist

 

WAITLIST – Limberjacks ($60)

Tuesday March 12th 9:30-3 Age 8+

This program is a kid favourite! Build your own limberjack toy from scratch, and give him/her a costume, hair, and more. Woodworking, fabric arts and music all in one program. Kids and limberjacks alike will be tapping their toes by the end of this fun filled day!

  • Participants are welcome to bring an instrument if they have one. 
  • Participants should wear painting clothes.  Smocks will be provided.

WAITLIST – Is That You In The Canoe?! ($18)

Wednesday March 13th 12:30-3 Age 6+

Be an artist, a scientist, a builder, and a voyageur. Explore the wonder of the canoe; its form, materials, art and function. Watch out for the rocks as you race your canoe down the waterfall! Finally, paint YOURSELF into your own 13-inch (33cm) basswood canoe cutout to take home!

Notes: Come prepared to paint!  Smocks will be provided.  

Thursday March 14th 

 

WAITLIST – Wanigans ($48)

Thursday March 14th 9:30-3 Age 8+

Try your hand at woodworking and create a mini-version of a wanigan (a traditional canoe tripping equipment box with its own unique carrying system). Explore its origins and variations as you hunt through the museum to find the pieces you need to build your wanigan. Our patient and experienced staff will guide participants in a hands-on building experience. Spend the afternoon adding a game function to your wanigan and painting it with your own design. Finish up the afternoon with baking a traditional wanigan treat! 

Notes:

  • No previous wood working experience required.
  • This program does include a hammering component that can be quite loud.
  • Lunch supervision is included in this program.
    • Participants should bring their own lunch and snack.  

Friday March 15th 

 

2ft Paddle Carving ($35)

Friday March 15th 9:30-2 Age 9+

Carve a 24” (61cm) paddle out of basswood! Using a traditional spoke shave tool, students learn the woodworking techniques to take their rough blank to a smoothly-sanded, finished paddle. Participants have a beautiful souvenir to take home and treasure. as well as an introduction to all the skills necessary to make a full-size paddle in the future.

Notes:

  • No previous wood working experience required.
  • Close toe shoes are required.  
  • Lunch supervision is included in this program.
    • Participants should bring their own lunch and snack. 

Souvenir Paddle Arts ($12)

Friday March 15th 2-3 Age 9+

Take your paddle to the next level! Participants will create and paint their own designs using bold colours and patterns for the blade. Complete your paddle by adding a traditional waterproof natural non-toxic oil finish where your hands meet the wood.

Notes:

  • Please come prepared to paint. 
  • You must participate in the morning program in order to sign up for this program.
