Charting the Course: A New Strategic Framework for The Canadian Canoe Museum

News

As we welcome a new year, The Canadian Canoe Museum is embarking on an exciting new chapter with the launch of our 2030 Strategic Framework and Principles of Engagement with Indigenous Peoples. These guiding documents set the course for our future, ensuring we continue to expand and deepen our work in meaningful ways.

A Vision for the Future: The 2030 Strategic Framework

Emerging from our recent board retreat and strategic planning process, the 2030 Strategic Framework outlines our updated mission, vision, and values, shaping our path forward.

At its core, the framework presents three strategic priorities—ambitious yet essential goals we aim to achieve by 2030. These priorities will drive our efforts to foster engagement and expand our impact across communities, enhance the collection, and strengthen the Museum through a sustainable approach.

Commitment to Indigenous Engagement

Essential to our Strategic Framework is the Principles of Engagement with Indigenous Peoples, a document that formalizes our commitment to respectfully engaging with and learning from Indigenous Peoples.

As stewards of the world’s largest collection of paddled watercraft, we recognize our privilege and responsibility to honour the diverse cultural histories and stories embedded within the collection. These principles ensure that our work is collaborative, reciprocal, and grounded in respect.

We invite you to delve into our Strategic Framework and Principles of Engagement with Indigenous Peoples, which can be found on our Plans, Reports, & Financials page. As we navigate this next chapter, we look forward to sharing our journey and working alongside our communities to bring this vision to life.

Together, we are shaping the future of The Canadian Canoe Museum—one paddle stroke at a time.

The Canadian Canoe Museum respectfully acknowledges that we are situated on the Treaty 20 Michi Saagiig territory and the traditional territory covered by the Williams Treaties First Nations. The Canadian Canoe Museum also recognizes the contributions of Indigenous Peoples including First Nations, Inuit and Métis, in shaping this community and country as a whole.

As an organization that stewards the world’s largest and most significant collection of canoes, kayaks & paddled watercraft, we will honour and share the cultural histories and stories within the collection in all that we do.
