The Archaeology of Dugout Canoes

February 28, 2025 @ 5:30 PM 8:30 PM

Join us at The Canadian Canoe Museum for a fascinating evening of discussion and discovery all about ancient dugout canoes.

Dr. Sissel Schroeder from the University of Wisconsin-Madison will be presenting her work with the Wisconsin Dugout Canoe Survey. Since 2018, this remarkable project has been locating, identifying and documenting an astonishing number of dugout canoes being found in the state of Wisconsin, with some dating back thousands of years.

The program will begin at 7 PM in the Gathering Room on the second floor of the Museum. Opening remarks by the Museum’s Curator Jeremy Ward.

Doors open at 5:30 PM for an opportunity to explore the Museum’s Exhibition Hall, along with a meet and greet. Light refreshments and drinks will be available for purchase.

The Museum is proud to offer this event in partnership with the Trent University Archeological Research Centre.
