The Final Portage
Our Move the Collection: The Final Portage campaign journey has officially come to a close. It’s with immense pride and heartfelt appreciation that we share the monumental success achieved through the collective efforts of our passionate community!
Sponsors and donors have lifted a massive weight off our shoulders throughout this portage, and we extend our most sincere gratitude to you for helping us safely transport the collection to the new museum. Your donations, support, and enthusiasm have left a major mark on our journey. You’ve helped us reach the finish line, but more importantly, you’ve become an integral part of our story. Thank you!
Last but certainly not least, we want to extend our deepest appreciation to our wonderful Lead Portagers, Neil Morton and Mike Judson. The energy and passion these local canoe enthusiasts brought paved the way for an incredibly successful campaign.
“It has been an absolute honour to be Lead Portagers for this historical journey in the legacy of The Canadian Canoe Museum! Let’s pull together to finish this campaign strong!”
Neil Morton & Mike Judson
While the Move the Collection: The Final Portage campaign may have come to a close, the wider Move the Collection campaign journey charges on as we continue to move into the new space. The Exhibition Hall has been filled, but we need your help filling the Collection Hall, which holds about 5x more watercraft!
Support the Move of the CollectionAbout The Final Portage Campaign
The Canadian Canoe Museum, home to the world’s largest and most significant collection of paddled watercraft, is embarking on an extraordinary journey as we prepare to move the entire collection from its current landlocked location to our new waterfront museum and campus across the city.
However, we cannot achieve this historic move without the support of passionate businesses and individuals like yourself!
“Moving a collection of this size and scale in the span of months is no small feat for our team and supporters. This move represents a pivotal moment in our museum’s history. By relocating to Ashburnham Drive, we will not only enhance the accessibility and visibility of this extraordinary collection but also create a transformative experience for our visitors. We are inviting donors and sponsors to be a part of this monumental move and help us bring the legacy of paddled watercraft to a wider audience.”
Carolyn Hyslop, Executive Director
In honour of this moment, we are launching our new Move the Collection: The Final Portage campaign.
Led by avid paddling enthusiasts and local community leaders Mike Judson and Neil Morton this campaign follows the two as they carry a red canoe throughout downtown Peterborough to the Museum’s new 65,000-square-foot home on Ashburnham Drive in a symbolic portage of the move of the Museum’s entire watercraft collection. Through a series of videos and behind-the-scenes content, the Final Portage campaign seeks the support of donors and sponsors to make the relocation a resounding success.
Mike and Neil’s journey has been documented in a series of videos, allowing you to witness the progress of our fundraising campaign as they portage past iconic local landmarks while building excitement for the Museum’s grand reopening!
Your contributions have allowed us to continue connecting people to our collective past and inspiring future generations through the safe relocation of this nationally significant collection.
Thank you to our sponsors!

Fun Fact!
If you were to line our watercraft collection up end-to-end, it would stretch more than 3km. That’s approximately the distance between our current location and our new waterfront home!
