Looking to get out on the water for some fun or reflective time? Renting a canoe or kayak from The Canadian Canoe Museum is easy and affordable. Our fleet of watercraft are ready for adventure!

We may be biased, but enjoying a paddle before or after your Exhibition Tour, Workshop, or lunch at the Silver Bean Cafe is the ultimate enhancement to a perfect day. Explore Little Lake, its adjoining waterways, the Otonabee River, and the Trent-Severn Canal system. Discover what Peterborough’s shores have in store!

Schedule

Available from the Victoria Day long weekend to Thanksgiving weekend, weather permitting.
Full Day: 10 AM to 4 PM
Half Day: 10 AM to 1 PM or 1 PM to 4PM
1 Hour: Available 10 AM to 4 PM

All watercraft must be returned to staff at the Museum dock at the designated time. Late fees apply.

What’s Included?

  • Canoe or Kayak
  • PFD, each with a whistle
  • Paddle
  • Bailer Kit (Bailing bucket, rope, reflective disc, flashlight)
  • Map of Little Lake and surrounding areas

What to Expect

Arriving

  1. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your departure time.
  2. Check in at the Front Desk in the Museum.
  3. Before you can participate, you will be asked to sign a waiver for yourself and anyone you are a guardian to at the front desk.
  4. Proceed to the Canoe House to pick up your boat and gear.
  5. Staff are available to help size your PFD and paddle, and assist you into the watercraft if necessary.

Returning

  1. Return to the Museum dock with your boat and gear at the designated time.
  2. Late fees apply.
  3. Staff are available to assist you out of the watercraft if necessary.
  4. Return your boat and gear to the Canoe House.

Cancellation Policy

Full refunds of deposits or other payments are possible for reservations if cancellation requests are made by phone or email 48 hours in advance of a scheduled rental.

Payments can be transferred to new dates, if reservations are rebooked in advance of refund deadlines.

Cancellation requests made earlier than the deadlines are appreciated!

When cancellation requests are made less than 48 hours in advance of scheduled rentals, an administration fee of 50% of the total rental fee will be retained.

Refunds will be made through our online reservation system and applied to the same credit card that was used to secure the original booking. Please note that refunds may take several days to be processed.

Or want to experience Little Lake in an all-new way?

Join a crew and explore the waterways in a 36-foot, 300 pound Voyageur canoe, departing daily (May-October).

Paddle the waterways of the Otonabee River and Trent-Severn Canal system while our Voyageur Canoe Tour Guides illuminate the human and natural history of the area. Be captivated by tales of Peterborough, the engineering behind the Trent-Severn Canal system, and the day-in and day-outs of voyageur life. You may even face a few paddling challenges along the way!
