Join 2020 Wipper Lecture guest Jessica Dunkin, in conversation with author James Raffan about her recent book, Canoe and Canvas, which examines the summer encampments of the American Canoe Association between 1880 and 1910 and the social and cultural landscape, challenging the stories we tell about the role of the canoes in society. Carve a 24" paddle while learning the woodworking techniques to take their rough, poplar blank to a smoothly-sanded, finished paddle. You will have a beautiful mini paddle to take home and treasure.

If you want to make your own sturdy sheath to secure your beloved camping knife, this workshop is for you. Bring your own fixed blade knife (not a folder!) and make your own unique sheath to fit that favorite knife. We will learn some basic skills of leather crafting that you will be able to use and practice while designing and making your own sheath. The satisfaction of making something so practical and beautiful with your own hands is one great result of this workshop. Be careful because the craft is contagious!

Make a Wet-Felted Vessel

This workshop is an introduction to the wet felting technique. Begin with merino wool roving and create our own unique textile by adding water, soap and friction. Enjoy the day learning from a knowledgeable local artisan, Christianna Ferguson, and leave with your own one-of-a-kind felted vessel!

All supplies required to make your vessel are provided, and no experience is necessary!
