The Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough, Ontario, stewards the world’s largest collection of canoes, kayaks and paddled watercraft. More than 600 in number, the watercraft and their stories have a pivotal role to play in understanding our past – and our collective future. Our dynamic team supports The Canadian Canoe Museum in inspiring curiosity, connection, and new understanding and bringing Canadians closer to the land and to each other! 

Visitor Services/Interpreter

With our new museum open on the shores of Little Lake in Peterborough, Ontario, our dream to operate a museum that acts as a community hub and public access point to the water is being realized. The Canadian Canoe Museum is looking for four Visitor Services/Interpreters to help us at this very exciting time.

Visitor Services/Interpreters will be greeting visitors and executing transactions at the Admissions Desk and in the Gift Store. They will be delivering guided tours and performing hands-on demonstrations for the public. Working closely with the Associate Curator, students will assist in many different areas of the Museum, interpreting exhibit content for our visitors and helping bring the exhibitions to life by demonstrating for the public. Training in interpretation and visitor services will be provided; however, existing interest in history, museums, hands-on skills, and/or art is considered an asset. Proficiency in French or knowledge of an Indigenous language is also an asset.

Outdoor Program Facilitator

The Canadian Canoe Museum is looking for four Museum Facilitators to help us deliver outdoor programs and facilitate events at our new location on the shores of Little Lake in Peterborough, Ontario. The Museum houses a world class collection of canoes and kayaks, boasts an outdoor lakefront campus, and serves as an engaging community hub. Working with the Programs Manager, the Outdoor Program Facilitators will play an integral role in bringing the vision of the Canoe Museum to life.

Outdoor Program Facilitators will be crucial to the delivery of our suite of outdoor programming, canoe tours and events. They will guide interpretive voyageur canoe excursions for all ages on the Trent Severn Waterway, operate a canoe and kayak rental program and support special event delivery. Training in visitor services, program delivery, and tour interpretation will be provided. This position is an excellent opportunity to be work with dedicated museum staff and volunteers to implement a dynamic visitor experience.
